What’s up internet techies I felt like writing a new blog shot about some new tech gadgets that I particularly looking forward to later this year. Based on the title of course I hope you have figured out that I wanted to chat or vent shall we say a bit about motion control gaming band wagon that Sony and Microsoft are looking to jump onto with Nintendo later on this fall.
First off let me start off by saying that I am not looking to take sides on which new motion control device either Natal or the Arc/Gem/Wand what ever the heck Sony is calling theirs is going to be the next big thing for gaming. There are plenty of fan boy flame wars going on all over the forums and blogs to cover that and as far as I am concerned there is really no point in debating it at this point until we the gaming public actually get our hands on the new tech and start spending our hard earned dollars on it.
I am actually more interested in how this whole motion control for gaming scenario is going to play out as both Sony and MS are late to the party and Nintendo continues to leave both of them in the console selling dust for three years now!
I feel that both Sony and MS have great tech gadgets that will be bringing a lot to the gaming table for both of their consoles. I think that the real problem in selling either one of them will be coming up with the software that will really entice the gaming public to buy into their take on the whole motion controller gaming boom that Nintendo has been enjoying all by themselves for the last few years.
There lies the biggest challenge for both of them as well in that Nintendo has flooded the market and milked the “casual gaming niche” for all it’s worth and they will continue to do so. I would almost relate it to the kind of uphill battle that all cell phone makers are having in trying to compete and beat the iPhone with an “iPhone Killer”…. it’s just not happening.
I think it will all boil down to the type of games that are going to make use of all this new gadgetry. Nintendo was able to bring something to market that was never seen before where as both Sony and MS will be viewed as copy cats and rightfully so because they are. Which leaves them with the games that they are developing, will we simply get the same shovel ware that Nintendo is now famous for pushing out there game after terrible game. Will the games we see just be graphic upgrades to the crappy games that are on the Nintendo market already or will they really bring motion control gaming to the next level?
The next few months should be interesting as both Sony and MS are building up their library of new motion control games. We really have not seen anything new yet in terms of new IP’s as they have both managed to keep this news pretty quite. Hopefully we will start to see big news on the latest new IP’s for motion control games in the next few months as the big gaming conferences start to roll in, come on E3 Until then here are the video clips from last year’s E3 where Sony and MS fired off their motion controlling announcements, just in case you have been living in a cave and did not see them already
